"Then it won't get much better"
- that was the comment from Michael Madsen from the Danish crane company BMS, after 2 successful tests of a type of edge protection made from dyneema fibres.

The new type of edge protection, which is made from dyneema fibers, was tested twice by BMS – and both times the result was nothing less than impressive.

In the first test, the edge protection was placed under a 6 ton heavy metal plate that was grounded very sharp. Despite the heavy load and the very sharp edge, it was not possible to find any damage on the edge protection after lifting.

The second test, which was carried out at BMS in Odense, was even more severe. This time, the new type of edge protection was tested as a protective bag around a round sling. The round sling with the protective sleeve was here placed under a very rough and sharp concrete element, which was also forced to slide in the round sling. Without protection, such an exercise would mean immediate breakage of the round sling, but with the new dyneema edge protection placed around the round sling, the round sling remained intact - and only when it was possible to pull the concrete element past the protection did the break occur.

A convincing test
"I am impressed by the results of the two completed tests. It is by far the best type of edge protection I have seen. It was really rough treatment we subjected the Dyneema® to.” says Michael Madsen, BMS. "I am happy that I had invited lecturers and students from AMU center Fyn - so that they could see with their own eyes the difference between "fire hose" protection and Dyneema® edge protection. And it is from these educational institutions that many crane operators start their careers.” he continues.
Products in the field of edge protection for lifting slings, round slings and lashings made from Dyneema® fibers have a lot of advantages compared to the existing edge protection. Dyneema® fibers have a high resistance to chemicals, combined with a very high cut and abrasion resistance, making the fibers the ultimate material for edge protection. Edge protection is particularly suitable for handling metal coils, lifting materials with sharp edges, and for lashing transport goods with rough surfaces and sharp edges.
