Snatch Blocks

A snatch block is quite simply a sheave in a metal frame. Snatch blocks are primarily designed for use when lifting and/or pulling heavy loads. Besides the direction of the steel wire rope can be changed with a snatch block (as the steel wire rope goes around the sheave) it is also used to increase the capacity of either hoist or winch.

A snatch block must be used correctly, because there can be extreme forces at play - both in the snatch block itself but also on the steel wire rope or e.g. rope made of Dyneema fibers that pass through. Especially steel wire ropes can be dangerous if there is an accident. At the same time, the increase in capacity that snatch blocks contribute can put increased pressure on the anchor points used. Therefore, please ask for advice if you have any questions about lifting or pulling with snatch blocks.
