A vacuum lifting beam (also known as a vacuum lifter) works by means of a powerful vacuum pump that creates negative pressure in a series of suction cups placed on the surface of the load. This negative pressure "sucks" the beam onto the workpiece with great force, after which the entire unit can be lifted safely with a crane or a hoist. The advantage of a vacuum lifting beam is that it grips the workpiece solely from the top or the side. This means you don't need room to pass slings or chains underneath the load, making it incredibly easy to pick sheets directly from a stack. In addition, the suction cups leave no marks or scratches, which is essential when handling glass, polished steel or finished wooden panels. Our Schmalz vacuum lifting beams are equipped with advanced safety systems, including a vacuum reservoir and acoustic alarms, which ensure that the load is held securely even in the event of a power failure.
