10 tips for lashing goods
The EU standard for cargo securing requirements was tightened in 2013 – and it is now a requirement that all cargo on board the vehicle must be secured and/or fastened in some other way. Here are the ten most important tips for secure cargo placement according to the EU guide to secure cargo placement in European road transport.
1. Check that the load platform, bodywork, and load securing equipment are not worn and are in good working order.
2. Secure the load so that it cannot move, roll around, shift due to vibrations, or fall off the vehicle.
3. Find the best method for securing the cargo (locking, blocking, lashing, top-over lashing, or a combination of these).
4. Check that the recommendations of the vehicle manufacturer and the fastening products used are followed.
5. The securing equipment must be able to withstand conditions encountered en route, such as poor roads and weather conditions.
6. Ensure that the load is distributed in such a way that the center of gravity of the total load is as close as possible to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and is kept as low as possible.
7. Check the load securing equipment regularly, especially after heavy braking.
8. Use friction mats, plates, straps, and beams to support the load.9. Ensure that the securing equipment cannot damage the load.
10. Drive carefully and avoid sudden lane changes and heavy braking.
