Ebrofrost, a food company located in Ørbæk on the island of Funen, operates four production lines that together produce 13 tons of food per hour. The company has been growing steadily over the past several years and is currently in the process of expanding its storage capacity with several new warehouses.
International export
Ebrofrost primarily produces rice and pasta, which are prepared and frozen for resale to other companies. Their main customers are catering companies and other food businesses that use Ebrofrost’s products in their ready-made meals.
For example, one pasta line produces 1,700 kg of pasta per hour, while one rice line produces 4 tons of cooked rice per hour. The pasta is made directly at Ebrofrost before being cooked and frozen, while the rice is washed, cooked, and frozen. Only about 1% of Ebrofrost’s products are sold in Denmark, while 99% are exported to the rest of the world.

Efficient production line with only a few manual lifts
If you take a look around the large production halls, you’ll see very few people. That’s because Ebrofrost has invested in efficient robots that handle many of the key tasks in production. But sometimes, for example at the end of the day, not enough is produced to fill a pallet, and then manual labor is required to pack the pallet properly. And that’s where Mathias Schiøtt Jensen, who works in Project and Product Optimization, was tasked with finding a solution that would spare the employees as much as possible.” The task landed on my desk, and since I had previously been in contact with Stefan—as Fyns Kran performs our mandatory inspections—it made perfect sense for him to come up with a solution to our problem.”Although a large part of Ebrofrost’s production is automated, it can happen that some pallets need to be repacked. A bag of rice isn’t light, so it can involve a lot of heavy and awkward lifting that employees are exposed to.

Fra idé til færdigt projekt
After an initial discussion with Stefan Demant, a sales consultant at Fyns Kran Udstyr, Mathias brought a bag of rice to our showroom to test different types of suction cups and see which one worked best for their product. Ebrofrost received a JumboFlex Mobile from Schmalz in January 2026, and since then it has been used a couple of times a week. Fortunately, with production as efficient as it is, it is rare for employees to have to perform improper lifting.

No more manual and heavy lifts for the employees
“Even though the vacuum lifter is used only occasionally, it is very important that our employees are not exposed to improper and heavy lifting,” says Mathias Schiøtt Jensen. The purpose of JumboFlex Mobile was to improve the work environment. And it has done so, on the rare occasions when repackaging is required in the otherwise highly efficient production facility in Ørbæk.
