CASE: Hydrema

Hydrema is known for its high-quality construction equipment, and although it isn’t the largest manufacturer, it is a solid player in the market both in Denmark and internationally—especially with its popular 12-metric-ton dumper.

As Denmark’s only manufacturer of construction machinery, Hydrema has found its niche by focusing on combination machines rather than the more traditional separate machines.

Collaboration Across Lifting and Safety

The collaboration between Fyns Kran Udstyr and Hydrema encompasses lifting equipment, fall protection, cranes, service, and custom-designed lifting beams. “We have a massive collaboration [with Fyns Kran Udstyr], especially within our service organization, where we’re standardizing all our lifting equipment. We have a lot of custom-made lifting slings that we’re also working on developing together,” says Anders Bo Poulsen, HSEQ coordinator at Hydrema. Fyns Kran Udstyr is currently developing custom-designed lifting beams for several specific lifting challenges at Hydrema, including lifting cabins and the large rims for dump truck wheels, which weigh nearly 2 metric tons.

Standardized Approach with EasyCert

Anders Bo Poulsen further explains that Hydrema is in the process of standardizing all of its service centers so that mandatory inspections will in the future be performed by Fyns Kran Udstyr, whereas previously various providers carried out the inspections. It’s a major process that Hydrema has now completed.

“This service aspect practically runs on its own. There are QR codes from EasyCert that can be scanned, so we can always log in and view the reports. It just works. Round slings or lifting straps are inspected; if they’re found to be defective, they’re discarded, and new ones are brought in. If they’re items from the standard product range, we can just call, and they’ll be here the next day,” says Anders Bo Poulsen.

Two-Way Communication Leads to a Customized Fall Protection Solution

Fyns Kran Udstyr recently supplied fall protection equipment when Hydrema faced a challenge: their service technicians needed fall protection while working at heights. This resulted in a custom-made solution, due to the height and complexity of the work to be performed on the machines.

“Our collaboration with Fyns Kran Udstyr is based on two-way communication. So, what’s needed, and what do we need? And what can you provide? We figure that out together,” says Anders Bo Poulsen.
