New Hoist? How to choose the right type

A hoist is used to lift or lower heavy objects. There are manual, electric or air-powered hoists and they come in many different configurations - for example with a hook or hanging from a beam clamp or trolley.
When choosing a hoist, there are many parameters that must be taken into account. Examples can be mentioned here:
– The weight of the load.
– The size of the burden.
– Lifting height.
– Where should you stand in relation to the hoist.
- What the hoist should hang from - for example, a trolley.
– How often the hoist should be used.
– Is the load fragile in relation to speed, for example when placing the load.
– Power requirements.
– Control requirements – must be with cable or radio control.
- How often should the hoist be used, for example per hour or day and how long the hoist must be used at a time.
Assess which type of suspension suits your needs:
Lifting Clamp:
– Available with or without shackle suspension.
– Ensures safe suspension on the beam
– The hoist cannot be moved horizontally once it is hung up.
– Requires a top hook on the waist for mounting.
Trolleys:
– Available in push, hand chain driven or electric models.
– Can move hoist and load horizontally.
– Available in special models for low installation height.
– The hoist can be mounted with a top hook or 'lug top mount'.
How to choose the right trolley - keep track of these goals:
– The beam type.
– Beam height.
– Flange width.
– Flange thickness.
– Curve radius or type, if the trolley must be able to drive on a curved crane track.
Why choose a Chain Hoist vs. a Manual Wire Rope Hoists?
Chain Hoist details :
– Lifts completely vertically.
– Can be used in dusty/dirty environments.
- The weight can be kept down.
– Can be easily moved.
– Lower price.
– Spare parts are usually cheaper.
– Easier maintenance.
– Easier inspection.
– Up to 5 tonnes after 5 tonnes capacity, wire hoists are usually cheaper.
– Can get closer to, for example, walls.
Manual Wire Rope Hoists:
– High capacity.
– Calm and soft lifts.
- Velocity.
– Good for longer lifts.
– More customization options.
Why choose an Pneumatic Hoist?
Pneumatic Hoist are ideal for very heavy lifting and very high lifting, but at the same time they require air from a compressor with sufficient capacity.
Below we have compiled a chart with the different Hoist types together with different environments where they can fit.
