Where do the annual colors come from?
The annual colors are believed to originate from a meeting in the early 1980s between the Working Environment Council for Construction and Civil Engineering and members of the industry, and this is the closest explanation of their origin that we have been able to find.
Do you HAVE to use these annual colors for approved lifting equipment?
No, it does not mean that you have to use these colors, and it is perfectly fine to use other color codes as long as it is described in the company's safety procedures and there are signs indicating this.
