Shackle with a documented load rating

The shackle has a WLL of 2,450 kg and is approved for lifting. It is marked to EN 13889. The safety factor is 4:1.

How the shackle carries the load

The WLL is the highest load the shackle may carry. The load must be carried along the axis of the pin centreline. Under a side load of 45° the load limit drops to 70 % of the original, and at 90° to 50 %. Sharp edges should be avoided. Inspect the body and the pin for nicks, cracks, corrosion and wear before use. A bent pin is not replaced on its own, the whole shackle is discarded. The shackle must not be heat treated or welded, as this can affect the WLL. Lifting equipment must be inspected at least every 12 months.
