What is an electric hoist (electric chain hoist)?
An electric chain hoist (often simply called an electric hoist) is a motorised lifting device that uses a strong load chain to raise and lower loads. Unlike a wire rope hoist, which winds a steel wire rope onto a drum, the chain hoist pulls the chain through a chain wheel and collects the excess chain in a chain container. This makes the electric chain hoist incredibly compact and reliable, as the chain cannot tangle in the same way as a wire rope. Small electric chain hoists are often used for assembly tasks and in workshops, while the larger models are indispensable for repeated, heavy lifts in industry, where they are typically mounted on overhead cranes or jib cranes.
Which electric hoist should you choose?
It depends on the job you are facing - we will be happy to help you find the right hoist for your needs and wishes. No job is too small or too big. In our product range, we have electric hoists for small lifting tasks from 125 kg up to the very largest lifting tasks with lifts of up to 120 tonnes, and they are therefore often standard components in many of the overhead cranes and jib cranes we supply.
Your choice of electric hoist also depends on the lifting height required for the load to be lifted. It can be in a large production hall with a very high ceiling, where the electric hoist needs a large lifting height. But it can also be in a small, low-ceilinged room, where it can be difficult to install the electric hoist, and where an electric hoist with a lower lifting height is therefore required. At Fyns Kran Udstyr, we have electric hoists with a high lifting height as well as electric hoists with a low lifting height - so no matter what task you need to solve with an electric hoist, we can find a solution for you.
What features does an electric hoist have?
The hoists have different features depending on which type of hoist you choose. Some electric hoists have different speeds, which can be practical for tasks that require the speed of your electric hoist to be adjustable.
Other electric hoists have an integrated trolley, which can be either manual or electric. And some electric hoists can be supplied with radio control – this means that you can operate your electric hoist using a remote control. This can be very practical for larger lifting tasks where large elements have to be lifted. At the same time, electric hoists with radio control also help to increase safety, as the electric hoist can be operated at a distance from the lift.
How do you maintain an electric hoist?
It is important to inspect your electric hoist and your lifting equipment regularly, and it must be inspected by a professional competent person at least every 12 months in accordance with the regulations of the Danish Working Environment Authority. In addition, your electric hoist and your lifting equipment should be inspected at least once a month at user level. However, there is one exception: if your electric hoist or lifting equipment has been overloaded or is otherwise damaged, you must first have a professional inspection carried out by a competent person before the electric hoist or lifting equipment may be used again.
